Celebrating International Women’s Day 2017 with the Nordic Ambassadors



On Monday, 13 March 2017, outstanding female game-changers were invited to celebrate the International Women’s Day 2017 to share their stories of hope and courage and inspiring men and women to keep on fighting repression and violence against women. HE Sidsel Bleken, Ambassador, Norway; HE Mikael Hemniti Winther, Ambassador, Denmark; and HE Johan Frisell, Ambassador, Sweden hosted the special evening at the residence of Norwegian Ambassador. Khan Foundation attended the event to support the International Women’s Day 2017.

Stories of empowerment came from Sandha Rani Mistri, a low-caste hindu who has already been elected local UP representative thrice, Rubina Ahmed started her own sweing business to gain financial independence and to escape violence in her marriage, Sumaya Rahman, a young law student who has used activism and theatreto raise awareness for women’s rights and Rokia Afzal Rahman, president of Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs, also shared her success story onhow business and entrepreneurship can establish women’s rights in society. Women’s empowerment is one of the core issues that the Nordic Embassies have been trying to promote in Bangladesh by pointing out the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad and the programs like the One Stop Crisis Centre associated to establish women's rights across the country.
