Bangladesh’s Rokhsana to speak on SDG at the UN

Lawyer and activist Advocate Rokhsana Khondker is set to speak at the High Level Meeting on SDG (Global Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals) at the UN in New York on Tuesday. She is one of the four speakers chosen from all over the world – one each from the US, Belgium, Bangladesh, Morocco – and invited by the president of the United Nations General Assembly, says a press release. Rokhsana is the founder executive director of Khan Foundation, a private voluntary development organisation, as well as founder chair of the Board of Trustees of the Millennium University. She is also an advocate at the Bangladesh Supreme Court and a long standing member of the American Law & Society Association. She has been a human rights activist since her university days and has been involved in social work for the last 40 years. Her area of work involves human rights, poverty eradication, gender equality, governance, democracy, education, climate change, SRHR and capacity strengthening, and political empowerment of female local government representatives, added the release. Rokhsana has also attended UN Social Summit in Copenhagen, Population Summit in Cairo, Women's Summit in Beijing, COP21 in Paris. She took part in numerous other international meetings at the UN headquarters in New York and around the world over the past three decades while pursuing the cause of the MDG and the SDG in motivating and sensitising the underprivileged and the grassroots in Bangladesh.
